Since I started my jazz show on Hoxton Radio six weeks ago, I’ve discovered so much incredible new music. A lot of people consider modern jazz to be dead, or even worse, non-existent.
It’s true, jazz is incredibly under-represented. When we think about the genre, we think of older men in smokey bars (despite us being in England where this has been illegal since 2007). It feels like an impenetrable, unwelcoming genre to many. I’m all about changing that. Acts such as Polar Bear, Troyka, and Get The Blessing really break down those barriers.
